 Types of MHT (HRT)

MHT or Hormone Replacement Therapy in Dubai is available in the form of tablets, patches, gels or vaginal preparations. The type of EMT required and the risks involved will vary depending on:

your age

if you have had a hysterectomy
if you have other medical conditions.
Your doctor can customize the type of hormone treatment for you. If you had an early menopause, you should continue treatment at least until the average age of menopause (51 years).

Estrogen plus progestin

Breast cancer -

 Overall, 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer during their lifetime.The additional risk of breast cancer associated with MHT is very small. The risk increases with the duration of MHT use and decreases after discontinuation. Using a different progestogen may reduce the risk.

Stroke -

 no increased risk in women with no underlying risk factors for stroke aged 50 or within the first 10 years of menopause. Women with risk factors can probably safely use the patch or gel form of treatment.

Estrogen Only

Vaginal estrogen therapy
Vaginal estrogen therapy is useful for women with local symptoms such as vaginal dryness.

 Safety Information:

Unmodified vaginal estrogen therapy is safe for long-term use, with the exception of breast cancer.

Tibolone

Tibolone is taken in a single tablet and has estrogenic, progesteronic and testosterone effects. Many, but not all, women find that tibolone relieves symptoms and can even improve sexual function.Tibolone is also useful for reducing the risk of osteoporosis (bone loss) in postmenopausal women.

Estrogen Combined with SERMs

SERMS (Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators) is a new treatment option for menopause. They have antiestrogenic or estrogen-like effects that vary in different parts of the body.

A tablet of conjugated equine estrogen in combination with Bazedoxifene SERM improves menopausal symptoms, bone density and reduces breast density. 

Bazedoxifene, like the progestogen, reduces the risk of endometrial cancer in women who have not had a hysterectomy.
